The growth in the Eaton township sees a predominantly urban population now residing in the Shire of Dardanup. Agriculture, particularly beef, sheep, dairy and viticulture continue to play an important role in the local economy. Currently designing the City of Wanju, set on 1,245 hectares of farmland, and projected to have a population of 50,000 people, create 4000 jobs and 20,0000 new homes. Wanju is the answer to growth in a sustainable way, new benchmarks will be set and new standards achieved in greener ways to create a community.
One of the largest integrated softwood milling and processing plants in Australia is also located in the Shire of Dardanup. The complex produces sawn pine timber and a range of reconstituted wood-based panels (particle board), including melamine faced panels, structural flooring and wet and dry flooring.

The Shire of Dardanup is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, immediately to the east and southeast of the City of Bunbury and about 180 kilometres (112 mi) south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 526.6 square kilometres (203.3 sq mi), and its seat of government is in Eaton in Bunburys eastern suburbs.
